Hello, I am Joy Bateman, a native and life-long resident of Memphis, Tennessee. I have gained recognition nationally for my talent as an artist and a publisher. I have successfully produced a series of books titled The Art of Dining and adding the identification of each wonderful dining location, such as The Art of Dining in New Orleans, The Art of Dining in Memphis, and The Art of Dining in Nashville.
I have also built a reputation as one of the region’s leaders in media sales. In recent years, I have worked with Delta Magazine, before that, for 20 years, I served as a senior account executive for Memphis Magazine, and spent 17 years as a senior account executive with The Memphis Business Journal.
“The recent publication of Dining in Memphis 4 is a must-have addition to the previous three books. There are more recipes from some of my favorite restaurants.”—Dr. Billy Kutteh, Fertility Associates of Memphis.
My parents, Joyce and Lester Gingold have inspired my talent. Joyce Gingold was a nationally recognized sculptor and taught art at St. Mary’s Episcopal School for forty years. For most of his career, Lester Gingold was in media sales. He also published The Best Times, a magazine for seniors.
I am incredibly proud of my three talented children and four grandchildren.
Anna Wunderlich, my daughter, is a wife, a mother of three, and an art advisor with a roster of local, regional, and national clients.

Anna Wunderlich, my daughter, is a wife, a mother of three, and an art advisor with a roster of local, regional, and national clients.
Brown Burch, my oldest son, is a husband, a father of one daughter, and a private chef. He is the former executive chef sous chef at LeCirque in NYC, opened LeCirque New Dehli, and was Chef de partie at Café Boulud in Palm Beach. More recently, he has been a private chef with the Hyde Foundation traveling between Aspen and Memphis.
William Bateman, my youngest son, is a husband and is an attorney for the Federal government in Memphis.
When I am not dining out, cooking, painting, selling, or writing, I am often spending time with my four grandchildren Alex, Ben, Bays, and Lucille. I also enjoy tennis, gardening, and spending as much time as possible at the beach. I am aware that I am living an incredibly blessed life and feel that I am proof that “with God, all things are possible.” –Matt. 19:26.
